Cylinder head
MG: MGA (1955-62) • MGB (1962-80)
cross flow specification - new item made from aluminium. Complete with valves, valve guides, valve springs and valve seats
Brand new cross flow cylinder head in modern design with inline oil feed for rocker shaft lubrication. As well as the obviously better heat dissipation of aluminium, it's use of allows a higher compression ratio to be used than would be possible with cast iron (approximately 0.5 of a ratio for the same type of fuel). This X-flow head give up to 30% more flow. There is also a weight saving, thus improving the weight distribution and therefore the handling characteristics of the car. Specifications: fully machined, balanced and polished combustion chambers with stainless steel valves, bronze valve guides, valve springs and lead free valve seats. The head is compatible with a tubular manifold and special inlet manifolds to use either SU or Weber carburettors.
Please note: If this MGB cylinder head is fitted to an MGA, the cylinder head gasket of the MGB must also be used. Part numbers: 15305 and 308152.
Furthermore, valve pockets must be milled into the cylinder block, as both intake and exhaust valves will overlap the block.
