In 1913 the bon vivant James Radley took part in the Österreichische Alpenfahrt rally for Rolls-Royce. He was accompanied by his friend Reginald Hooton Hope, who captured the risky venture in photographs. Drawing inspiration from Mr Radley’s album, John Kennedy, the present-day owner of the Silver Ghost, returned to the historic locations in 2013, where he re-staged his predecessor’s photographs. This volume uses the old and new photographs to take the reader on a journey to the individual stages of the seven-day-long drive from London across the Alps to Vienna. With references to new source materials, it tells the exciting story of one of the most important rallies of early automobile history.
